The other day, my sister walked into the cottage to find my book covered in books and note sheets. She couldn’t believe I was studying in bed. Before you start judging me, it’s not as bad as it sounds! Though I love living in my sister’s cottage and the freedom that comes with it, it’s still not home yet. The only comfortable spot I have here is my bed. I explained to my sister that as a rule I try to study at the library because they have great tables and no internet. She wasn’t convinced.

A Shifting State of Mind
September 4, 2012 by the Sleep Walker
The weather is warming up considerably! This means I’ve had a chance to do the first phase of Spring cleaning. This past weekend before anyone in my household was allowed to ring in spring they were all expected to pitch in and do their spring cleaning bit.

My Easter Weekend in Stages
April 10, 2012 by the Sleep Walker
I had such a wonderful Easter weekend planned with the family, extended family and friends. I think that has to be my most favourite part of raising a family in the town I grew up in. There’s a feel of community — a family-like bond. I have great friends who play a big part in my life, especially on occasions like this one. So here is a highlight of my weekend. I’m just glad all these stages ended with a good night’s sleep on my Sealy bed.Category The Domestic Goddess | Tags: Family time,Food,Our beds,Schedules & Lists | No Comments

The trick to traveling during a busy period
April 5, 2012 by the Sleep Walker
When people tell me that they have plans to travel during a busy travel period my first advice is always to tell them not to. But nobody listens to me, so most of the people I know have travel plans for this long weekend. Just this morning a good friend of mine and her “spousal equivalent” hitched a trailer to their car and drove down to the Kwa Zulu Natal south coast. If you’re one of the people who have their bags packed, trailers hitched to mummy wagon or tickets booked read on.

Bad days come in threes
March 13, 2012 by the Sleep Walker
How I am sitting here with a chilled glass of mother’s medicine — as coined by one of my most favourite people (ma Zane) — and writing a recap of my not-very nice last three days is a mystery to me. These few days proved to me that I’m not superwoman or supermum for that matter and that things go wrong, they will go so wrong you ask yourself in the middle of a beautiful dream sequence if things would ever be right again, if you will be able to completely tick an item off your to-do list.

New Year, new routines
January 10, 2012 by the Sleep Walker
Happy New Year domestic goddesses!
This is the year to fully unleash the domestic goddess within you; I hope that you will stay with me and that you learn as I learn. With the new academic year in full swing I find myself with a new quagmire of having to synchronise all the routines and staying on top of everything like I always do, because should anything go wrong, everyone gives that surprised look that’s layered with a bit of disappointment. I hate that look. There are a few new items on my schedule and I have devised some ways to handle them.
